CALL FOR PAPERS
Young Scholars Pre-Conference on
Global Health Ethics
new deadline for submission of proposals!
Time: March 30, 2022 Place: Virtual Event
The Institute for the Global Church and Mission in its effort to rethink the mission of the Church in the contemporary world organizes an international conference on the topic of the Mission of the Church in the Era of Global Public Health. The conference will be held virtually from 30 March to 1 April 2022.
Theological studies on bioethical and medical issues are generally oriented toward either classical bioethical topics or clinical ethics while the broader aspect of the health of the local and global population often remains neglected. Public and global health have not yet found a significant place in theological discourse. On the other hand, the Covid-19 pandemic has shown the magnitude of interconnectedness between peoples and nations. The impact that national public health has on global health and vice versa is becoming more and more evident. This situation has inspired a lot of studies and conferences regarding the ethical, social and medical challenges of a global pandemic. Nevertheless, there is still a notable gap in the ecclesiastical reflection on the role of the Catholic Church in both public and global health. This conference aspires to bring out some of the current health challenges in public and global health. By connecting experts from different fields of research and practice, we hope to stimulate further reflection and exchange concerning the possibilities of Church engagement in this field.
We invite young researchers to submit proposals for papers for the Young Scholar Pre-Conference on the topics of global health ethics. If you are engaged in research and reflection on specific bioethical questions related to your region or country, public health ethics, global health ethics or the Church’s engagement from a global health perspective, you have the opportunity to present your research and participate in a constructive discussion with our guests and experts in public and global health and ethics.
Abstract proposals, containing the title and a maximum 250-words description (including research question, methodology and main findings), author’s name and institution’s affiliation, should be sent to Dr. Branka Gabric (gabric [at] iwm [dot] sankt-georgen. de) by February 5, 2022.
For security reasons, documents with old MS Office file formats (.doc, .xls, .ppt) will be rejected by our mail server. Therefore, please send your documents in .docx or .pdf format. Thank you for your understanding!
The notification of acceptance will be sent by February 10, 2022. All submissions will undergo a review process and there will be an opportunity for one or two papers of academic excellence to be published as a part of the Conference Proceedings.
