Die Konferenz
Die diesjährige Jahrestagung des Instituts für Weltkirche und Mission wurde online ausgerichtet. Wir wir wollten trotz der Pandemiesituation diese Möglichkeit nutzen, um Fachleute und Interessierte aus allen Kontinenten über das neue politische Engagement der Pfingstkirchen ins Gespräch zu bringen. Um die Kommunikation zu erleichtern, wurde die Veranstaltung ins Deutsche, Englische und Spanische simultan gedolmetscht.
Das Thema
Die Konferenz ist Teil des gleichnamigen Forschungsprojekts „Politischer Pentekostalismus“, das derzeit am Institut für Weltkirche und Mission durchgeführt wird. Besonders in den Blick genommen wird dabei das zunehmende und weltweit neu wahrnehmbare Engagement pfingstkirchlicher Akteur*innen im Bereich der Politik und Öffentlichkeit. Im Mittelpunkt steht nicht nur eine religiöse Einfärbung politischer Diskurse, sondern auch eine nachhaltige Veränderung im Selbstbild und Selbstverständnis dieser Akteur*innen.
Vor diesem Hintergrund entsteht ein neues Spannungsverhältnis zwischen Religion und Politik, das sowohl die Wissenschaft, die Kirchen, die Politik als auch die Gesellschaft als Ganze herausfordert. Bei der Konferenz werden Expert*innen aus verschiedenen Disziplinen mitwirken, um dieses Phänomen so umfassend und perspektivreich wie möglich zu beleuchten. Folgende Bereiche waren vertreten:

The Conference
This year’s annual conference of the Institute for World Church and Mission will be held online. Despite the pandemic situation, we are using this opportunity to bring experts and interested persons across the continents into conversation on the political engagement of the Pentecostal Churches. To facilitate communication, the event will be simultaneously translated into German, English and Spanish. Participation is free.

The Theme
The conference’s title “Political Pentecostalism” bears the same name as the research project that is currently being conducted at the Institute for World Church and Mission on this topic. Particular attention will be paid to the increasing and worldwide noticeable engagement of Pentecostal Church actors in the political and public spheres. The focus will be as much on the religious coloration of political discourses as on the ongoing change in the self-image and self-understanding of these actors.
Given this trend, a new tension between religion and politics has emerged which challenges academia, churches, politics, and society as a whole. At the conference, experts from various disciplines will be involved in order to shed light on this phenomenon as comprehensively and multifacetedly as possible. The following areas will be covered:

Aims
| The main objective of the conference is to gain perspectives from three continents of the Global South where this phenomenon is particularly pronounced, namely Africa, Asia, and Latin America. The comparison will help to validate or even to relativize certain patterns of interpretation or justification. The virtual format offers us the chance to involve as many interested parties and their contexts as possible. |  |
| Consequently, internationally renowned experts will present the state of research in their respective fields mentioned above in order to stimulate discussion. In addition to the academic debate, there will also be room for pastoral questions and challenges, within which Church actors will also have the chance to contribute. | |
| Different formats are available in our virtual space: Lectures, interest-group work, panel discussion, get-together meeting and much more. In addition to the discussion on the content, opportunity for networking and exchange of ideas beyond the conference are of great importance to us. |  |

Audience
First and foremost, this invitation is extended to researchers on Pentecostalism worldwide who are interested in comparing different ways of contextualizing the phenomenon. In particular, we welcome the participation of students and doctoral candidates in the above-mentioned areas of study who would like to gain a comprehensive overview and orientation for their research work. Our interest-group participants in particular have the opportunity to enter into direct exchange with individual experts and to ask specific questions.
Equally invited are church actors who are confronted with the increased engagement of Pentecostal Churches in the pastoral work environment and are challenged by it. In the same way, the conference addresses researchers in missiology who deal with the question of the mission of the Church and Christian proclamation under post-secular conditions.
Furthermore, the conference addresses all persons who are interested in the question of the relationship between religion and politics in the present global context or who are politically, ecclesiastically engaged as well as actors in civil society.

La conferencia
Este año la conferencia anual del Instituto para Misión y la Iglesia Global (IWM) tendrá lugar de manera completamente virtual. A pesar de la Pandemia, no queremos desaprovechar la oportunidad para propiciar un espacio en el que expertos(as) y personas interesadas de todos los continentes puedan conversar sobre el nuevo compromiso político de las iglesias pentecostales. Para facilitar la comunicación, ofreceremos interpretación simultánea en alemán, inglés y español. La participación en el evento es totalmente gratuita y usted podrá:

El tema
La conferencia forma parte del proyecto de investigación que con el mismo nombre, „Pentecostalismo político“, se desarrolla actualmente en el IWM. Se prestará especial atención al creciente y recientemente perceptible compromiso mundial de quienes actúan desde la iglesia pentecostal en el ámbito de la política y el escenario público. No se trata solamente de analizar la connotación religiosa de éstos discursos políticos, sino también de sugerir un cambio sostenible en la manera como quienes actúan se ven y se comprenden a sí mismos(as).
Es evidente que en este contexto está surgiendo una nueva tensión entre la religión y la política que desafía al mundo académico, a las iglesias, a la política como tal y a la sociedad en general. Por eso, propiciaremos un espacio adecuado para que expertos y expertas de diversas disciplinas participen y ofrezcan una luz sobre éste fenómeno de la manera más completa y específica ─desde diferentes perspectivas─ posible. Objetivos
| El objetivo principal de la conferencia es promover una reflexión sobre el tema desde la perspectiva de tres continentes del hemisferio sur donde éste fenómeno influye de manera particular: África, Asia y América Latina. La comparación contribuirá a validar o relativizar determinados patrones de interpretación o de justificación. El formato virtual nos ofrece precisamente la posibilidad de involucrar un mayor número posible de participantes y sus diferentes contextos. | |
| Para eso, expertos y expertas de reconocimiento internacional presentarán el estado de las investigaciones desde sus respectivas áreas con el fin de estimular la reflexión. Además de la discusión académica, también habrá espacio para plantear preguntas y debatir sobre desafíos en los que agentes pastorales tendrán la palabra. | |
| Una variedad de formatos le esperan en nuestro espacio virtual: ponencias, trabajos en grupo, paneles, reuniones de encuentro y mucho más. Además de la reflexión sobre el contenido, nos interesa particularmente la posibilidad de establecer redes y promover la interacción más allá del tema como tal de la conferencia. | |

Público
En primer lugar, esta invitación se dirige a investigadores(as) del pentecostalismo en todo el mundo que estén interesados(as) en comparar diferentes situaciones del fenómeno estudiado. En particular, damos la bienvenida a la participación de estudiantes y doctorandos de las disciplinas mencionadas que deseen obtener una visión global y una orientación para sus propios trabajos de investigación. El trabajo por grupos, en particular, les ofrecerá la oportunidad de interactuar directamente con expertos y expertas con un énfasis particular y, por tanto, hacer preguntas cada vez más específicas.
De igual forma invitamos a agentes pastorales de diferentes comunidades que se enfrentan al creciente compromiso de las iglesias pentecostales y que justamente por ello se ven desafiados en la actualidad. En este contexto, también esperamos la participación de misiólogos(as), quienes se ocupan de la presencia de la iglesia y del anuncio cristiano en condiciones postseculares.
Además, la conferencia está dirigida a todas las personas interesadas en la relación actual entre religión y política o que estén comprometidas diariamente en sus labores política, eclesiástica o cívicamente.
